Affordable Warmth Scheme

If you own your own home (or if you've signed it over to family members) you may benefit from “The Affordable Warmth Scheme” which targets low income households who experience the effects of fuel poverty and energy inefficiency. Grants are available for up to £7,500 (£10,000 if your home is of solid wall construction). The financial qualification is that you have to have a total annual gross income of less than £20,000. You do need to be referred by your local council, but you can contact your council and ask to be considered.

The scheme is also available to those who rent privately, but in that case your Landlord must agree to the work & to making a 50% contribution to the cost.

Contact details for your local council can be found here.

The Boiler Replacement Scheme

The scheme is open to owner occupiers whose gross household income is less than £40,000 and who have an inefficient boiler of at least 15 years old.

The grant is up to £1000 (for those who have income of under £20,000) or up to £500 (for those with an income of under £40,000)

The scheme is run by The Northern Ireland Housing Executive, call them on 0344 892 0900 and ask to speak to someone from the boiler replacement grants team.
